One of the main reasons for softmodding the Nintendo Wii is the ability to use USB backup loaders, such as Configurable USB Loader. These are homebrew applications that allow you to install your owned games to a USB hard drive and run them from there – this results in less wear on the DVD drive and games discs as well as faster loading times.
DISCLAIMER: This site is for homebrew and backup purposes only. I do not condone piracy and back-ups should only be made if you own an original copy of the game. It is illegal to softmod the Wii to play a game you do not own.
There are many homebrew applications available after softmodding the Nintendo Wii with varying purpose and functionality. I recommend checking out the following:
- Homebrew Browser – an application that allows you to browse and download other homebrew applications. Think of it as the Nintendo Wii homebrew app store.
- WiiMC – Wii Media Centre is an open source media player for the Nintendo Wii, providing features such as music player, online media support (e.g. YouTube), network playback and DVD playback with DVD menu support.
- SNES9x GX – A Super Nintendo emulator for the Nintendo Wii with Wiimote, Nunchuk, Classic, and Gamecube controller support.
So, with nothing to spend, nothing to take apart, but lots to gain follow my step-by-step guide and give your Nintendo Wii a new lease of life.
